Zřícenina hradu Zbirohy
A castle story that is read from the remains in the forest. Zbirohy will appeal to those who like to imagine the former building according to the terrain and the preserved traces.

Zbirohy are the ruins of a medieval castle in the area of Maloskalska nad Jizerou. The name also belongs to a nearby settlement. Do not confuse them with the Zbiroh castle in Rokycansk: it is a different region and a different monument. Here, the main experience is the forest environment and the search for the former layout of the castle, not walking through the furnished castle rooms.
Reading landscape instead of finished interior
At the ruins, it pays to first inspect the entire terrain from a safely accessible path. Only then focus on the individual remains. Try to guess where natural form ends and human intervention begins, but treat an uncertain estimate as a question, not a historical fact. Such a visit works even without a large number of exhibits: the main theme is the place itself and its gradual transformation.
An idea for your day
Set aside two hours for the stay and the forest part of the trip according to the chosen departure. Besedické skály may be another destination in the area, but only add them if you have separate travel and return plans.
Things to know
Is this Zbiroh Castle?
Nope. Zbiroh in this guide is a ruin in Maloskalsk, not Zbiroh castle in Rokycansk.
Who is the trip suitable for?
For visitors on foot who enjoy the forest environment and the remains of buildings. Don't expect the type of visit to a furnished castle interior here.
