Sobotka

The town under Humprecht is worth more than just a drive to the castle. A short walk connects houses, literary history and views of the surrounding countryside.

Sobotka is associated with the poet and writer Fráňa Šrámek, who was born here. His memory is commemorated by a museum in the square; Šolc's farmhouse also belongs to the local cultural tradition. Humprecht stands above the city, giving the surroundings an easily recognizable landmark. You can therefore choose two different directions for your visit: behind the literature in the city or up to the castle.

City as a full-fledged destination

Take your time in the square and adjacent streets first. Try to notice the changes in scale between the public space and the individual houses. If you like literature, set aside enough time for a possible museum visit and check its opening hours in advance. You don't need to know all of Šrámek's work to make sense of how the birthplace enters the author's life and the city's memory.

An idea for your day

Spend two hours in the city and one stop of your choice. Humprecht is a natural continuation to which you should add time for climbing and sightseeing. Vesec or Plakánek can be a topic for another part of your stay in Sobotecko.
